A package group is the collection of one or more packages installed in the same directory. For example, if WebSphere Application Server and Java JDK are both installed at /opt/IBM/WebSphere/AppServer, then both WebSphere Application Server and Java JDK are part of the same package group. When a package is installed, the package is automatically added to a package group.
The imcl (Installation Manager command line tool) listInstalledPackages command with the -verbose option can be used to display the package groups. In this example, the name of the package group is "IBM WebSphere Application Server v8.5".
~]# ./imcl listInstalledPackages -verbose
[Package group]
Name: IBM WebSphere Application Server V8.5
Installation directory: /opt/WebSphere/AppServer85.64
Translations: English (en)
