Follow these directions to install IIS on Windows 7:

  1. Select the Windows Start Icon > Control Panel
  2. Set View by (at the upper right hand corner of the Control Panel) to Large Icons or Small Icons
  3. Select Programs and Features
  4. Select Turn Windows features on or off
  5. In the Windows Features dialog box, check Internet Information Services
  6. Following are the only additional things that need to be checked:
    • World Wide Web Services
      • Application Development Features
        • .NET Extensibility
        • ASP
        • ASP.NET
        • CGI
        • ISAPI Extension
        • ISAPI Filters
        • Server Side Includes

To confirm IIS was successfully installed, enter the computer's IP address into a Web browser, and the default IIS Welcome page should be displayed. We can also go to Start, type IIS in Search, and we should have an option for Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager. The index.html file, by default, is located here: c:\inetpub\wwwroot\
