Logitech - Resolve "There is no Unifying receiver plugged into your computer"

Updated:   |  Logitech articles

This error appears in Logitech Unifying Software when attempting to connect a Logitech wireless device to your computer. To resolve this issue, you will need to have some way of interacting with your computer. If using a laptop, simply use the built in keyboard and mouse. If using a desktop tower, connect a wired keyboard and mouse to the tower.

Try a different computer

To determine if the Logitech Unifying receiver is still functional, connect the Logitech Unifying receiver to a different computer. If the Logitech Unifying receiver does not work on a different computer, the Logitech Unifying receiver is probably defective.

Restart your PC

Start with the basics. Restart your PC, and then check to see if Logitech Unifying Software is able to detect your Logitech Unifying receiver.

Ensure the USB interface on your computer works

If the Logitech Unifying receiver works on a different computer, connect any other USB device to the USB interface on your computer, and ensure the other USB device is functioning properly. This will ensure the USB interface on your computer is operational.

Physically connect the Logitech Unifying receiver

The Logitech Unifying receiver will need to be connected to a USB interface on your computer in order for the Logitech Unifying Software to detect the Unifying Receiver. Ensure the Logitech Unifying receiver is securely connected to a USB interface on your computer.

Ensure the Logitech Unifying receiver is displayed in Devices and Printers

  1. Select the Windows Start icon Control Panel.
  2. Select Devices and Printers.

If the Logitech Unifying receiver is not displayed at Devices and Printer, this means the computer cannot detect the Logitech Unifying receiver.

Ensure Device Manager can detect the Logitech Unifying receiver

  1. Select the Windows Start icon, type devmgmt.msc in search, and select devmgmt.msc.
  2. In Device Manager, expand Human Interface Devices.

Under Human Interface Devices, if there is no listing for Logitech HID-compliant Unifying device, Logitech Unifying Software will not be able to detect the Logitech Unifying receiver. In this example, there is no listing for Logitech HID-compliant Unifying device.

If there is no listing for Logitech HID-compliant Unifying device, at the top of Device Manager, select View Show Hidden Devices. In this example, after selecting Show Hidden Devices, there are a few listings for Logitech HID-compliant Unifying device. In this scenario, you will first want to uninstall Logitech Unifying Software (see below). This should also remove the hidden Logitech HID-compliant Unifying devices. Then, resinstall Logitech Unifying Software.

Disassemble the Logitech Unifying receiver

If Devices and Printers and Device Manager cannot detect your Logitech Unifying receiver, disassemble the Logitech Unifying receiver. This can easily be done with a screwdriver and pliers. There will be four chrome contacts on the chip. Clean the contacts. Once cleaned, to test the device, wedge some paper between the Logitech Unifying receiver and USB interface, to ensure there is a very firm connection. If this resolves the issue, and your computer now detects the Logitech Unifying receiver, you can reassemble the Logitech Unifying receiver.

Reinstall Logitech Unifying Software

Uninstall Logitech Unifying Software, and then reinstall Logitech Unifying Software.

My Anywhere mouse is about 6 years old and I don't have the driver disk. Driver doesn't seem to be on logitech site. Can anyone help?

The receiver shows up everywhere in my computer. It just doesn't show up in this unifying sofware.

Software broken. Brand new unifying receiver shows up and works everywhere, but isn't detected by pairing software.

THANK YOU!!! I have 4 hours of CAD ahead of me on a borrowed laptop would have been 6 w/o a mouse. I assumed it was a driver but you helped me figure out it was a physical connector issue. PCB and a folded post-it stuffed in and working fine. You saved my night / project / sanity.

The Connection Utility can't detect 2 (two) receivers I have. The both works just fine at the same time. Win10.

Unifying device is working but Options says no device found; connecting software cannot see unifying device; unifying device software cannot detect unifying device. All connected devices DO WORK but none of the software can detect them.

Computer does recognize the unifying device but none of Logitect's software does. All devices still work but not Options.

I have a Logitech Mouse and Keyboard. Both work but the unifying receiver will not detect either. Unifying Software is installed but does not open. ReConnect software does not detect the receiver, though the receiver is showing perfectly everywhere. SetPoint does not detect them either. Thanks

This was driving me crazy! I but this is what worked for me: I copied these 2 files from a PC that the logitech unifying receiver was working on. c:\windows\inf\usb.inf c:\windows\inf\usb.PNF Deleted those files on my PC and replaced with the new files. I unplugged the receiver then shut down. Before turning the PC back on I plugged in the receiver. Reboot and then my keyboard and mouse worked!

I had K750 keyboard working perfectly fine (say with USB connector X). Then I bought MX Master 3 mouse (with USB connector Y). Since two USB connectors were connected the tool asked me if I want to combine mouse and keyboard to one connector. I thought that this is good idea because I could use spare connector in second PC. I've did that and it worked but in this setup from time to time my keyboard "stucks". Two times I had to wait 30 seconds till I'm able to use keyboard, so I thought that it sucks and I want my previous setup. Guess what? Now the tool doesn't see my spare connector and I'm unable to use it. HORRIBLE user experience. It's not HW issue because it worked just fine, it's your software which broke everything.

I opened m receiver up and found that both X1 and C2 (the 16Mhx crystal and a capacitor) were gone. Don't know how they got sheered off. something got shoved up there. I will attempt to replace, guessing a 18pf 0402 cap will work for c2. I have a second unit that I opened up to determin the crystal value. cap value it educated guess.
