Before configuring the hostname and primary DNS suffix, the hostname and DNS suffix can be viewed in Server Manager. In Server Manager, select Local Server, and then select the Computer name (Server1 in this example). In the System Properties dialog box, the hostname and DNS suffix are displayed.
To change the hostname and DNS suffix name:
- In Server Manager, select Local Server
- Select the Computer name (Server1 in this example)
- In the System Properties dialog box, select Change
- In the Computer name field, type in the new host name.
- Select More
- In the Primary DNS suffix of this computer field, type the new primary DNS suffix name (Server2012.local in this example)
- Select OK to close the DNS Suffix and NetBIOS Computer Name dialog box
- Select OK to close the Computer Name/Domain Changes dialog box
- Select OK to close the System Properties dialog box
The server will need to be restarted to make these changes.
